Post-Sickness Ramblings

You ever feel like you don't have something to talk about?  That's not usually me, BUT I was sick all last week and a chunk of this week.  Now that I'm not coughing and headachy every five minutes (more like every few hours or so now) here is some blog material!

First, nerdy news.  I'm sure you've all heard this by now, but Nintendo is dismantling Club Nintendo.  According to a notice from Nintendo - CLICK HERE TO VIEW - there are three big dates coming up.  January 20, 2015 - all products released after this date cannot be registered.  March 31, 2015 - the last day to obtain coins, register products, or sign up for the service.  June 30, 2015 - last day to cash in your coins for awesome stuff and last day to access your account at all.  It is a sad thing, but, on the bright side, there are rumors that they will be rebuilding and upgrading Club Nintendo.  Keep your eyes/ears open for any news on that!

Second, random fashion thing.  So for a while TeeFury has been promoting their new thing ShoeFury.  Now at first I was like okay, interesting, but not nearly as cheap as their tees (yes I know they are shoes).  And then I dug a little deeper and realized the shoes they are selling are Zipz.  What are Zips?  Well if you Google Zipz shoes you are greeted by a site explaining the shoes - you can buy a whole shoe which comes with a removable canvas.  Yeah, the part with print/design on it (the "Top") is removable.  After buying this first pair, you can then purchase other Tops for much less than the whole shoe and just swap them out whenever.  So that means . . . I CAN HAVE MULTIPLE PAIRS OF SHOES FOR MUCH LESS AND WITHOUT ENTIRELY TAKING UP MY WHOLE CLOSET!  This is pure genius and if you haven't seen then, why haven't  you seen them?  Check it out here:

Third, I started working on my Sakura-Con cosplay!  Technically I should be working on my ECCC cosplay first, but I went nuts trying to find the perfect fabric for

And after a minor brain implosion I spotted the perfect material!  Alas, I accidentally created a monster when I started working with it . . .

I made the neck too small - I doubt it would fit a child's head at this point.  Fortunately, I figured out a solution to the problem so it should look awesome next time I update.

Okie dokie smokies!  That's all for tonight.  Gonna take some medicine now!

NEW YEARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Hello Beautiful People!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!  If you couldn't already tell, mine were a bit hectic/busy; so much so I didn't even have time to blog for you all!  So here I am ready to spew some information.  Let's get to it shall we?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, Christmas.  I discovered Pinterest some time ago, but only recently did I make an account.  For Christmas I went a bit nuts making gifts using Pinterest ideas.  I made this jacket for multiple people: Cocoon Cardigan.  I also found the beginnings (sorry no links because I didn't actually use any one pattern) for the following hat:

GO SEAHAWKS!

Both of these DIY were very easy to do, BUT, if you are able, I recommend altering patterns or sewing ideas to suit you.  Sometimes posters provide instructions that don't quite fit what you're doing or just don't make sense.  As such, adjust accordingly.

Anywho, after using the site to make presents I went a bit nuts finding pins that I felt were important: Cosplay, Bounds, Sewing, and FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD!  Check out my findings using this handy dandy link: Pinterest: TheECGeekette

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second, Cosplay Plans!  As we all know ECCC and Sakura-Con are fast approaching.  My plans thus far are ECC: Freyalise (MTG) and SECRET (no seriously, not telling you what this one is, you can just guess) and for Sakura: Team Magma Admin Courtney (Omega Ruby version).  I will post progress pics when I can :-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So that's all I got for the time being.  BUT BUT BUT, if you haven't checked it out yet, by order of my cousins, I did a Happy Wheels Highlight Reel!  Check out the first video:

Flareon Commission!

So I have officially completed my very first commission.  IT WAS A SUCCESS!  I believe I already told this story, but I shall tell it again.  During PAX I was wearing my Glaceon hoodie and a woman stopped me asking where I got it.  I stated, most proudly, that I had made it myself and she asked me to do a commission.  I completed the Flareon hoodie last week and presented him to his new home on Saturday.  My client was happy to let me take some photos so check it out!

Front!

Back!

Please note the flames on this lovely Flareon, they were a pain in the bum.  So many edges and turns - I am capable they just make me nervous while sewing.  I was actually afraid the flames wouldn't come out right in general because Flareons are fluffy (er, on fire really).  But I think stitching it the way I did (almost like a patch) gave it some fluff and I made the back swallow-tailed.  In any case, I am quite proud of myself and looking forward to possibly doing more commissions in the future.  My client actually showed interest in having a second hoodie commissioned and then a friend approached me about a kigurumi (O_O).  I'll keep you all posted on those!

Rave of Thrones

So I went to a thing.  A music thing.  Rave of Thrones showcasing the musical stylings of Kristian Nairn.  Let's be honest here though - HODOR IS A FREAKIN DJ!  I must admit I was not expecting much from an actor turned DJ.  From past experience many actors, athletes, whatever turned DJ or singer do not turn out . . . the best.  There are of course exceptions, but general rule of thumb is . . . no.  But Mr. Nairn has been added to the list of exceptions.  His music was awesome to the ear and had me dancing for an hour and a half straight.  In addition to music there were sword swallowers, firebreathers, hula hoopers, women on stilts (didn't quite get that one), and cosplayers.  My apologies for lack of photos, it was VERY dark in there; but I did manage to hunt down a particularly cool pic (the light hits just right :-):

Not sure if I will be able to find the exact music he played, but he does have a SoundCloud and YouTube:

POKÉMON

Sorry for the late post all; I was so full of turkey and pie (4 turkeys, 4 pies) that I couldn't move to type!

First up, Pok
èmon finally came out!  I picked up my copy of Omega Ruby and got down to business.  I'm not really a "beat the game now!" kind of person so I've been taking my time with it.  I am on my way to the Champion(s) as we speak.  So my initial thoughts **POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD**:

1) Totally did not realize the game was a full remake.  I played the original Ruby and when I found out they were releasing it again I was definitely excited, but I figured they were just updating the game - adding 3D and some features, done.  This is not the case and I am so glad.  The game is indeed a FULL REMAKE.  You can definitely see the original game in there, but it is very clear they sat down and rewrote (coding and such) for the entire game.  It's so beautiful I could cry.

2) Something funny the game has added: you can sneak up on Pokèmon.  So you walk by tall grass and you see there may be a creature in there.  You head toward it and it takes off, right?  Wrong!  In Omega Ruby if you slowly tilt your joystick you will do the creep up on the creature.  First time I saw this in action all I could think of was swiggity swooty:

Definitely a good feature to have, but still made me giggle.

3)  You.  Can.  Fly.  Of course, you can use the HM Fly, but now, instead of just selecting Fly and then arriving at your location, you can actually fly and control the Pokèmon while doing so.  I had heard about this before the game came out, but figured I was misunderstanding.  I wasn't.  Enjoy.

Those are the big things that had me trippin' out while playing.  Omega Ruby is definitely worth your money and time so I suggest picking it up.

In other news, I finished my first ever COMMISSION!  I am quite proud of myself and would like to share an image of the finished product:

Is a Flareon and comes with leg warmers (cuz leg warmers are cool).  I will be sure to get front and back shots of the jacket when I bring it to my client.  Wish me luck!

I actually think that's all for tonight.  Notice it was all Pokèmon themed?  You see what I did there?  Nighty night!
