New Video Game!: Mario Kart 8

Hiya!

So I've been completely geekin' out the last week or so because a whole mess of video game related things going on.  There is so much going on in the video game world right now that I wasn't really sure where to start.  So . . . I'll start here!

Mario Kart 8, as we know, features characters from the Mario series of games duking it out in some extreme go-kart (scooter, plane, bike, car, stroller, etc) racing.  The first thing I have to point out about this game is Luigi.  The day it came out I went to a friends house for a play party.  Halfway through a race one of the guys shouts, "What the - did  you see see Luigi's face?"  Of course none of us knew what he had saw because we were focused on, you know, not getting destroyed by a shell so we thought nothing of it.  Later that night I jump on the internets for a little bit and, lo and behold, I now realize what my friend saw - Luigi has some serious stank eye going on.  Watch closely and if anybody passes Luigi, hits him, or if he hits them he gives the most evil look I've ever seen on a Mario character.  And now there are memes about it everywhere!

This is one of the original faces - look at that fury!

And then . . .

DISCLAIMER: I own no Nintendo things.  Full props to Nintendo for being amazing in all they do and also to whoever made this image move :-)

Anecdote complete, I have a few random things about the game.

- It is Wii Remote, Wii U GamePad, and Wii U Controller Pro compatible so really, so long as you have a Wii U, you can play this game.  I'm hoping the game will be compatible with the new adapter for GameCube controllers.

- Anyone else notice that Waluigi and the Koopalings are actually hard to beat?  I've been in first quite a few times and, at the very last second, they blast by.  Also, Waluigi waves his hands in the air like he just don't care when he wins.

- There is customization for your Kart (stats included) and for some of the game modes.  There's a way of play for everyone :-)

So after playing for quite a few hours and testing a few friendships, I'd give this game a super thumbs up.  Graphics rock.  Usability rocks.  Characters all have their own little quirks in one way or another.  Play this game!!!!  Go go!
